Because novelty is judged strictly, timing matters. A design must not have been published or disclosed anywhere before the application is filed, so the registration should be planned alongside your product launch, not after it.

How long does design protection last?
Ten years from registration, extendable by a further five years, giving a maximum of fifteen years.
Can I register a design that is already on sale?
Generally no. A design must be new and unpublished at the time of filing. File before any public disclosure, exhibition or launch.
What is the difference between a design and a patent?
A patent protects how something works. A design protects how it looks. Many products benefit from both.
Can a logo be registered as a design?
Logos are normally protected as trademarks and copyright rather than designs. We will point you to the right route.
Launching a product with a distinctive look?
